UFC 125 results are in and the latest Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts tournament is over. The latest UFC fight was held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Nevada and drew some 12,688 attendees for $2.17 million live gate. The final results between the most awaited fight between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard resulted in a split draw, 48-46, 46-48, 47-47.
The fight between Edgar and Meynard earned them an extra bonus award of US$60,000 for being the “Fight of the Night.” After this event the UFC lightweight champion will be meeying Anthony Pettis in the next UFC.
Edgard vs Meynard fight had been very tedious and the fans were on the edge of their sits as Edgar was nearly knocked out during the early minutes of the first round. Meynard took over the first round and scored an early lead on the judges scorecards 10-8. The lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar managed to stage a comeback and showed what a champion was made off. Each round had been on equal footing and they exchanged blows and tried to pin one another.
In the overall every round was hotly contested. In the end UFC 125 results for the main event battle was scored 48-46 Edgar, 48-46 Maynard, and 47-47, resulting in a draw. Since the UFC 125 resulted in a draw, Frankie Edgar retained the lightweight title.
Maynard but, was sad to hear the news that he would not get a second chance at the championship belt. It was perhaps the saddest news of the evening for the challenger.
“Obviosusly, it doesn’t feel excellent,” Maynard said. “I thought that was my fight. I thought I had the belt. I worked my ass for this. I guess it kind of hurts.”
Frankie Edgar revealed to the press during the postgame press conference that he prefer to have a rematch against Maynard rather that welcoming the WEC’s final lightweight champion to the cage. He will be facing Pettis which earned his title shot as a result of his WEC 53 victory over former champion Ben Henderson.
“I probably would (prefer to have a rematch with Maynard),” Edgar said. “To have a little more closure would be nice.”
