Jan. 5 Open Line – Jacksonville Journal Courier

“Outrageous. Sure, today it’s us smokers, but who tomorrow?”

“Never run in a parking lot. Those cars look parked, but they could be being driven by slow-moving seniors.”

“Maybe Pactiv would have better luck with their hiring if they didn’t pay a temp service $12 for an $8 employee.”

“I thought in the state of Illinois it was illegal to shoot a firearm from a moving vehicle, whether it be licensed or an all terrain vehicle. Nearly daily, I hear coyote hunters in Cass and Morgan county hunting coyotes using walkie talkies or CB radios, I have to say CBs because of the cold a walkie talkies battery would go dead. Anyway, someone should find out, like the game warden, who these cruel SOBs are and give them a ticket and take their firearms from them. They are not sportsman, because a sportsman would give the animal a chance.”

“If the Woodson bar has 300 people in it, why not put a couple of Port-a-Potties out in the beer garden? You couldn’t even get to the regular restrooms for all the drunks blocking the doors.”

“Right after all of those birds fell to the earth in Arkansas a couple of days ago, why did every Democrat talking head start blaming their deaths on George W. Bush?”

“This is one of the many tristate Smoking Bandits. Your arguments that if ‘you don’t like to smoke then don’t go,’ and ‘smokers are discriminated’ are so fake. Smoking kills innocent people. People have a right to breathe clean air. Some of you low-class people that don’t smoke can only get jobs in bars and even those people need to be protected. Then the higher classes that are in college often work these jobs. They are above the smoker. Face it, you have lost and are losing in several other states now as well. The smoking ban is here to stay and it is spreading like wildfire. Soon the nation will be smoke-free and the smokers will have to pay higher taxes and higher insurance. Smoking kills more people than your drugs you are so worried about. The Smoking Bandits are victorious.”

“With all the people hurting so terrible in the states, why doesn’t Obama take a vacation here and try to figure out some answers to some of our problems. If he vacationed here he would be here a whole lot more than he is now.”

“Are you people all stuck on stupid? Oil prices are based on the price per barrel, not on the gas station owner’s greed or Obama or the Repukes. The price per barrel is about to hit $100 again so prepare for even higher prices at the pump. Get a fact before you yap about things you know nothing about. You’re so mis-informed, on even common sense issues a 10 year old should know. Too much Fox Noise has fried your tiny little brain cells, if you ever had any to start with.”

“Next verse, same as the first. There remains unanswered questions regarding Paula Stewart. She has applied for every position in District 117 that she is qualified for but has not been hired. Once she was hired as volleyball coach there has been nothing but controversy every year that she held the position. Is this the kind of person that should be on the 117 board of education?”

“So many columnists seem to approach their topics with their minds already made up, and all they do is scurry around to collect data to support these thoughts.”

“This bitterly cold weather and the unusually cold weather last winter, along with all the nasty rain last spring, were the direct result of the nefarious plotting by ex-President George W. Bush and the Morgan County Republican Committee of Misinformation and Deception.”

“A big ‘thank you’ to Dave Truesdell for the many years of fine service he gave to the public at the post office. Pleased retirement.”

“The majority of you twits on the Open Line have Stockholm syndrome when it comes to believing the government could really have had a big part in 9/11 and fake-flag terrorism to take away your rights and freedom.”

“The U.S. government censored the truTV series ‘Conspiracy Theory’ with Jesse Ventura as host. I guess when you speak the truth about our government or seek the truth you get censored real quick. By the way, Jesse had 1.3 million viewers annually, one of the better series on television.”

“To the couple at El Rancherito who found it to be the best place to argue about your divorce: Thanks for ruining my dinner and everyone else’s in the restaurant. Next time, try ‘Jerry Springer,’ you’ll get more public attention.”

“Look, I don’t deny that there is some police brutality in this country. But, I don’t think it’s what you think it is here in Jacksonville. No one who has been injured has denied that they were resisting arrest. Get it through your thick skulls. If you resist, the police have the right to take you down. If you get injured in the process, it is your fault that it happened that way. If we as a society take away the ability of police to keep order, there will be no order. It’s the people of society that cause these situations, not the police all by themselves.”

“If it takes a moron to know a moron, and you know who all the morons are, that makes you the grand poohbah of morons, moron.”

“After reading several articles about the Troy Logsdon death investigation from several different news sources, I have come to the conclusion that the truth is not in the papers or media.”

“To the state police officer investigating the Troy Logsdon murder: I beg to differ with your statement that a beer bottle or mug will bust the skin over the head when one is hit with one. I know for a fact that isn’t always the case. I’ve been hit with one twice and it never once broke the skin, but it did leave a huge lump and lots of swelling. My medical doctor could testify to this as he saw me each time.”

“‘The system is fundamentally broken and unrepairable.’”

“To the 37-year-ancient male that has a felony DUI, I too had one when I was 31-years-ancient back in 1991. It didn’t much affect me, only I had to now find rides back and forth to work. I was lucky though, I worked on the river and only needed one ride to work and one home from the boat every other month. Maybe you could try working on the river, although it has changed a lot since 1991 and not for the better. It’s certainly not for a married man or a man with children though. Excellent luck to you. You are right, everyone has to work and they make it so we cannot.”

“I can’t imagine working today with all these background checks you landlubbers have to go through. I worked on the river and many of us wouldn’t have ever passed a background check, but we made some of the finest workers. Alcoholics, drug addicts, ex-cons, gamblers, etc., but we worked well together, got along well and made the companies we worked for rich.”

“I do not know the censorship that is going on in the JJ-C Open Line [Online]. You let anyone comment but when it comes to reading the comments to those who commented, you make us log in or become a member. Why?”

“Why are the Republicans bringing us this cold weather?”

“If you are stupid enough to drink and drive and get a third DUI, then you should expect no support from society and should still be in jail. You may not be a murderer, yet, but your actions make you an attempted murderer.”

“After reading the Troy Logsdon jury verdict ruling his death a homicide, I beg to differ with the state police officer Jennings who said a beer bottle would’ve broken the skin and left more blood. He is full of it. I was hit in the head with a beer bottle in a tavern once, very hard, and it didn’t knock me out. It did drop me to my knees but it never broke the skin on my head. It did but, leave a huge swollen lump and blood clot. Troy Logsdon very well could’ve been hit with a bottle or a mug, either one. Also, his blood alcohol isn’t that high — 0.08 is legally impaired but 0.110 isn’t that drunk. Remember the old illegal limit was 0.10. It isn’t until you’re like 0.25 or above that you start to pass out or function incorrect. Logsdon drank frequently all his adult life and could handle his alcohol, like most Beardstown residents. Also, it shouldn’t matter one bit about him suffering from an aneurysm. He was murdered, the aneurysm didn’t kill him, it may have or may not have later in life.”

“I was aghast at what I witnessed today out of the federal justice system. They are out of control and they are worse than the gangs that roam the streets.”

“You mean to tell me that school has been out for over a week and then Jan. 3 we have a teacher workshop? Just how dumb is this? No wonder these kids are getting dumber by the day, because they are never in school.”

“Get your worksheets ready, fellow teachers. We have 100 days of work until the summer gets here. I rented some new movies. I can’t wait to show the ‘Jurassic Park’ series in my science class.”

“Just wondering if there was a published report of the Facilities Committee for 117 schools. I’d like to see the cost comparisons in black and white before we close school buildings and build one that the voters said ‘no’ to several years ago.”

“I can remember when the city of Beardstown used to put a 3- inch and 6-inch trash pump at the underpass by Schmoldt Park to drain the water that pools there in rain storms and high water. Today, they do nothing except set up barricades. I guess no one knows how to run a hose over the levee anymore. Or is it just too much work? Yes, they’d have to get out of their trucks instead of ride around all day long.”

“Professor Steve has done it again. In his Jan. 4 column, he again derides the notion of American exceptionalism. Professor Steve, if you despise America so much, why don’t you go to another country where you’ll be more pleased, like Cuba or North Korea?”

“OK, smart guy, rioters will be shot on sight. Really, like they were in the Los Angeles riots? Like they were during Katrina at the Superdome as they raped women and stole from people, beat them, and robbed them? Have you ever been in a riot? I have, in Chicago in the ’60s. The government, the police, the National Guard only come after the fact. Excellent luck on the shooting them on sight, you think they won’t have guns or weapons? Do you think they will stand in one place so you can shoot them?”

“People riot when government fails to perform their duties and ignores the citizens. Our first riots happened in 1776 here in the U.S. against Fantastic Britain and the tyranny they imposed on the colonists, much like the same tyranny the government is imposing on us today. Allowing corporations and monopolies to run our lives and the government imposing high taxes on us and using austerity to make even more money off us.”

“Crashing through the lies and disinformation, it’s Alex Jones at the GCN network infowars.com. Check him out if you haven’t, this guy is full of information that will enlighten you on current issues in our society today.”

“Cannot say who is running for Ashland but he said that he is going to put his foot down on how that town is ran. No more buddy to buddy, family to family and no more city equipment being used for personal use. Squad cars will no longer be used as a personal vehicle and will be parked at the town hall at the end of each shift. This will save the town a lot of money per year. Let’s hope this works out.”

“The most ludicrous thing I’ve heard of lately is: ‘We should let the casinos go back to smoking because their revenues are down.’ Well whoopee. I wonder how much money the state is saving from second hand smoke people not having to deal with it and the state not having to pay their bills.”

“Looks like animal control needs to come down here to Murrayville once in a while. There are all kinds of dogs loose.”

“If the government rushes and gets the gas to four and a half or five dollars a gallon, they won’t have to worry about end of life counseling for us old people. We will all be dead from not being able to drive to go get groceries or our medicine.”

“For all of you who want healthcare repealed, I would like for you to call your congressman, like Mr. Schock, and question him to do that. When you do, question him what his alternative is. I just did and I was shocked, he has no alternative.”

“Smoking Nazis, please shut up.”

“Hey Nancy Pelosi. Go buy you a good pair of walking shoes because you’ve lost your airplane and I’m pleased to death.”

“Please, somebody tell me the difference between an illegal alien and an undocumented worker. They are both breaking the law.”

“I believe Sarah Palin was right. Parents should be able to feed their children what they need. We don’t need to have the government completely control our lives, do we?”

“Did someone else take over Taco Gringo, because the part size is skimpy?”

“To the person that said we need to get our Christmas lights down. I want you to know that I’m going to leave my up all year and leave them on. I want that good feeling all year long for my family and my neighbors.”

“Come on now. It’s not Easter we’re decorating for. January is Elvis Presley’s birthday. February is Valentine’s Day and March is St. Patrick’s Day. Why don’t you slow down and delight in the little things.”

“The Republicans only talked about making jobs when they took over Congress. That was the first thing they wanted to do out of the gate. Now, what’s the first thing they’re doing? Repealing healthcare. I guess there are too many old ones and they are having too many senior moments.”

“The Jacksonville police chief lives in Franklin. When is he going to be moving to our city?”

“One of the things that may have killed the birds is all the carbon dioxide from say, a power plant. If the amount is too much, the birds could just fall out of the air, like they did.”

“I’m glad that Steve Hochstadt writes a column for the Journal-Courier and that I get to read it once a week.”

“I completely support the Meredosia Board’s choice to not support the Meredosia Historical Society. Some people don’t seem to realize that our town’s money has been ripped off by former board members. It won’t be investigated because of the death threats given to anyone that tries to get it investigated. Our money has been stolen and it needs to be returned so the town can get back into the proper financial shape. Something needs to be done about the thieves in the past that have taken this money instead of starting a historical society. The Skinner wall is absolutely shameful; after all, where are the Skinners? They are around but they’re not around here.”
